    I am looking forward to presenting for the Veritux community of independent female consultants today on "Integrating Yourself In A Team As An Independent Consultant." As I was preparing this morning I reflected on my years of consulting and the importance of combining emotional intelligence and organizational awareness for maximum consulting impact and success. The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen.  JUST LISTEN.  Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our time & attention. Organizational awareness is having the ability to read a group's emotional currents and power relationships and identify influencers, networks, and dynamics within the organization. As a consultant, it is crucial to your effectiveness and credibility to develop a deep understanding of the workplace dynamics, norms, structure, and culture to successfully connect across an organization. For years, I have believed that the soft skill piece of organizational awareness is a key to success and can be the root cause of many issues. Most importantly, it is a coachable skill. There are different spins and contexts to this competency, but all have one thing in common and that is that strong emotional intelligence and organizational awareness skills have a positive impact on individual performance, company objectives, client outcomes and customer service.  Every function, position and individual within the company plays an important role in contributing to the results of the company. People who perform consistently excellently typically have a well-developed sense of organizational awareness. As a consultant, your focus is on learning to Do it Right, Do it Efficiently, and Do it Excellently. There are two elements to organizational awareness:  1. External: Understanding of how the organization interacts and presents itself to the outside world. Individuals with a keen understanding of organizational awareness regarding the external world around the organization can represent the company well, prioritize, and serve the customers using this sense and understanding. 2. Internal: Understanding of both formal and informal processes of the company, the culture, and how roles and responsibilities impact others and company outcomes.  Understanding how an organization functions and the workplace dynamics requires emotional intelligence, reading between the lines and picking up on unspoken norms and cues, which helps consultants navigate the workplace culture more effectively. #OrganizationalAwareness #EmotionalIntelligence #Consulting #TeamDynamics #Leadership #WorkplaceCulture

    The Workplace Psychological Safety Act (WPSA) in Rhode Island recently passed a Senate floor vote, and the House Labor Committee heard our testimony in a public hearing but held the bill for further study so they can read through the testimonies before taking a vote to decide whether to move the legislation forward to a House floor vote. Elevated Coaching & Consulting Global are deeply committed to this cause and is working closely with End Workplace Abuse to build awareness and have the Workplace Psychological Safety Act passed. Rhode Island is positioned to become the first state in the country to pass workplace anti-abuse legislation as was touted in a Boston Globe article about the Rhode Island legislation. Public outcry is growing, which is critical to collective movement. But we have less than two months left in the RI legislative session to make our case to the House Labor Committee, whose members heard opposition from powerful corporate interest groups. We need an outpouring of support by May 31 to put protections from psychological abuse at work on the Governor's desk. Every voice counts. Let’s not let this opportunity slip through our hands. Let’s get a win in Rhode Island and leverage that win to pass protections in other states — because we ALL deserve safer workplaces.
