If you work, live, worship, play, etc., if you qualify to be a member, that's what I'm trying to say, this is absolutely your BEST option for banking. Before I go too far, I'm looking at all the previous reviews that rate this anything less than 4/5 stars because they're hilarious. I mean they still have to operate within banking regulations so it's funny that people get upset because they want the bank to "bend" the rules just for them.
Now on to the positive. Love the staff. That's exactly how an FCU should treat their clients. Friendly, smiling, warm, and inviting. The banking portfolio is vast and I appreciate that they are there for any needs I may have today and in the future. Like I said at the beginning, if you qualify to be a member and aren't one yet, you're missing out on the banking experience of a lifetime. I'm not asking you to switch banks, just come on in and add them to your portfolio and see how eventually, they become your primary. You heard it from me first. :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Richard B.Gainesville, FL024Feb 21, 2023
Do NOT deal with this incompetent credit union.
I was forced to deal with it when my original credit union closed and my money was automatically transferred.
I've had nothing but trouble with ACFCU since. It has brought foot-dragging to a new low.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kevin C.Arlington, VA82877Aug 18, 2022Updated review
I have not had a bad personal experience with this credit union at both branches they are a very nice institution I've been banking with them since 2015. They've been helping me out a lot since then. They're very nice when you walk in. I have yet to have a bad experience with these folks.

Today I was explaining to them my situation and they are very understanding of my problem. They'll do what they can for you. And I'll say this to my fellow people who use this credit union just because they're nice don't take advantage of them! They're very good people and I highly recommend this community credit union!

DO NOT BANK HERE FOR ANY REASON!!!!
Save yourself the hassle. This is the worst bank I have ever banked at. Rude inconsiderate and unapologetic. Snafu with a bill pay caused a 30 day late payment and they reported me with out even reaching out. 30days past due the first time in the life of a loan and your report it on day 31? Called to discuss and the customer service lady's first comment when I said I wasn't contacted stated we don't have to by law with a sarcastic attitude. It went down hill from there and quickly. When you already know you have bad policies you get defensive right off the bat. I don't know how anyone could work for a company like that. Seriously never even asked me if things were ok? You never miss a payment let's see what we can do. Not phone calls no letters nothing. Just here is a late fee and a hit on your credit because you know your have been such a great customer. For a small bank they have zero regard for their customers. Not even sure why they are in business other then to hurt other people with fees and bad practices. I have been with them for 16 years. Have always not really cared for this place and have had many customer service issues I just over looked. Not anymore. Paying loan off and will never look back. Please save your self the headache and pull you money out of this bank and put it in any bank but here.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lynn G.Springfield, VA08May 2, 2023
I have had an account at this credit union since 1974. At the time I opened my account and for several decades, the CU was like family. CU employees and customers were on a first-name basis because, at that time, we all worked for Arlington County. Today, I called to get information about CDs--just information. I was told that I would need a code word. I know nothing about a code word. The person told me I chose a code word when I opened my account. Almost 50 years ago, when I opened my account, I can guarantee that I did not have a code word. Even though I was able to answer every question the person asked--social security number, etc., that wasn't enough. I simply wanted information about CDs and to verify the steps to open a CD from my account online, but, without the "code word," the information was a no go. Kind of silly. I absolutely agree that accounts should be protected, but this seems over the top. If I could find a CU/bank with good rates and responsive, friendly customer service, I would move my money in a heartbeat.

I'm not sure why the bad reviews. I've been here multiple time and I've always had a pleasant experience. I first came to this credit union because they are a part of the credit union shared service network where you can bank with other credit unions nation wide. Some locations only have an ATM to use for the shared services, but at this location you can actually conduct your banking transactions at the teller window which means that if you don't have a debit card, you can still complete your transaction. All you need is the account number, your ID and he name of your credit union. There used to be an app for shared service centers but some time ago it went crazy, so I was forced to call credit unions around the DMV to find participating locations and Arlington Community Credit Union does participate (both here and at Wilson Rd locations. I'm not sure about the one on Columbia Pike location).
This location has its one parking lot unlike the location on Wilson Rd. (Again, I'm not sure about the parking situation for he one on Columbia Pike).
Awesome customer service. The staff was super very kind and friendly. One thing I really liked about this location was that I didn't feel rushed as I do in some banking institutions. They were able to take their time and keep the line moving because they had multiple tellers. FAST and EFFICIENT! I love it. I'd definitely come back to this credit union again.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Mar 21, 2021Previous reviewThis place is horrible it's fine if you don't have to interact with any of the employees they are all incompetent I even went to the CEO about the customer service at ACFCU and guess what nothing changed. They don't care about the members they care about covering for each other. I can't wait to pay off my loan here so I never have to deal with these people again. Make sure you double check everything they do and check it again just to make sure.

I never write reviews but I am compelled to write one on this place:
STAY AWAY!! AVOID! My experience with this bank has been so bad that I have to write a review. Have had a few problems with them regarding activating a debit card which took forever. But my biggest concern is that they did not post online what institution that withdrew $1200 from my bank account from. Nothing, not even a name. I got a generic "Treasury" withdrew your money later on but that was it. The $1200 withdrawal made me negative almost $350. Speaking to a lady named Laura, who earlier assured me everything will work out ended up changing her story by late afternoon. In other words, Laura does not understand what she is talking about or doing. I have been in customer service for over 20 years and I would never assure a person a situation will be fine if it would not be. That's a bad move.
Please stay away from this place.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I'm a people person. I've been trusting the Arlington Community Federal Credit Union (ACFCU) with my money almost 40 years. I strive to keep my credit score high and take great pride in paying debts on time.
However, I was recently unemployed and became concerned that I could miss a couple of upcoming payments. I've never missed any before.
So, I called to see if they could do anything temporary to help me--IF NEEDED--and they responded by FREEZING MY CREDIT CARD! :-)
Fortunately, I am blessed to be back at work again. I didn't need my credit card for any emergency expenses. However, this could have been an extremely dire situation for anyone.
The ACFCU is strictly business. I'm a people person!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - YelpUser S.Arlington, VA04231Jan 12, 2021
Just had my entire AFCU checking account wiped out by fraud in 2 days. Fortunately, I converted this account from a standard savings account to an emergency cash account years ago, but I still lost hundreds of *my* money. It should be noted that default security notifications are not actual security-related notifications and I can only guess that this bank doesn't use basic fraud detection technology that's been around for over a decade. Even the cop who filed my report looked at my transactions and shook his head in disbelief that my account wasn't flagged after multiple *duplicate* transactions on what is clearly a Chinese website. He informed me that smaller banks like AFCU are a target because of their lack of robust security. For the record, my card sits on a shelf, not in my bag and my last PoS transaction was in June 2020 at a grocery store. Furthermore, I've never used the card for online transactions.
I'll update after I find out whether I can get my funds restored and the withdrawal from my line of credit removed. I'll also let you know how painful or painless the process is.
I'm grateful that the account wasn't as bad as it could have been, but for a bank that can't flag multiple duplicate purchases and which doesn't have a block/lock/verify process for anomalous transactions--I reckon I might as well just stick my money under my mattress. Today there is a much higher risk of cybertheft and fraud than your house or apartment catching on fire.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I'm so sorry to hear that you were a target of fraud. That is always very frustrating and disappointing. I see that you have marked that you don't want to be contacted by ACFCU so I will respect that by not following up, but we want to make sure that you get your money back. Please reach out to our call center at 703-526-0200 or email our team at acfcu@arlingtoncu.org so that we can help.
