My taxes are oddly complicated and like a dummy I waited until the last moment to do them this year. I was so lucky to have Donna Berk be my tax advisor. She was wonderful, smart, professional, kind and took the time to explain my tax return and the process in detail. I really appreciated it. I didn't feel like just a number and this was a truly hassle free tax return experience. I highly recommend it and highly recommend Donna.

I made my appointment very easily on line and was seen exactly on time!

Also, truth be told, the review left by Ashely below is extremely offensive and was not at all my experience. I paid my taxes online with no problem through Block Advisors, this location was staffed by professionals who have no problem speaking English, and they guaranteed their work, so there was peace of mind in case any future issues arose.

The location is okay and easy to find.
The appointment system seems to work fine.
The lady working in the front was nice and helpful.
On the expensive side but that is how it goes.

My rating for our Tax Advisor, Donna Berk, would be 5 stars. We recently moved to VA. and had multiple states and a issue with state tax being held by D.C. instead of VA. Donna did a great job getting everything squared away pretty quickly and was easy to understand and work with.

I needed a new tax person because the one I had last year messed up my return. Block advisors was close by so I thought I would give them a try. I was assigned Ashley Hanson. I asked how much. After looking over the paperwork And some small talk she would not give me even a guessament. One, she was hard to understand as English was her second language. Two, turns out she charged me twice as much as the last tax people I had.

I asked her to look over last years tax prep and she said everything looked good.

Everything was not good. IRS sent me recently a $6000.00 refund from the previous tax year she said was okay. In addition Virginia questioned my return, needed more information. I called her to discuss it and she was not very helpful. Turns out Virginia credited me over a thousand dollars that was supposed to be $ 41.00. Also related to the prior year she said was okay.

I would definitely would not recommend these people.

I filed online due to Covid. My "expert" DONNA BERK has been completely unprofessional. My emails to Donna have recipes no response and I have no idea if My taxes are filled.

DO NOT GO! First of all, good luck finding an employee here who isn't ESL (English as a second language). I'm coming here for help understanding my taxes but I can't even understand what you're saying because you don't speak clear proper English... give me a break. Once you manage to translate something to American English, you realize that you're getting incorrect information. Armando (who is the office manager!) told me I "could not" pay my taxes electronically online. I was told the only way possible to pay was to mail a check (what century is this?) or pay over the phone, and I would be charged extra. All of that is completely false. Per the recommendation of an actual real life American CPA, I ended up paying online just fine.

It's clear this office doesn't deal with American customer service standards either - I have never received a more grossly unprofessional experience anywhere in my life. The office manager Armando literally laughed in my face when I had questions about my taxes. The whole reason I was here in the first place was because I got an IRS notice that H&R Block failed to complete my taxes property TWO YEARS ago, and now I owed an extra $1100 plus interest because of their error. After he finished laughing at me in the reception area in front of other customers, Armando told me "just pay it" without any explanation. When I pushed for an explanation, I was told "it's your fault the taxes were wrong". You can't be serious. I paid H&R Block $300 to make sure my taxes were done right because it is their job to make sure nothing is left off. Armando tried to tell me I didn't provide the correct information two years ago.... lucky for me I brought the entire H&R Block packet with me and the information he accused me of not providing was right inside the packet where it belonged - H&R Block just failed to report it correctly on my taxes.

I was told they would fix it in 2 business days. 2 business days later I called back and they hadn't even begun to correct my return. Fed up, I went down to the office to collect my documents and take them to a more professional office, and Armando locked the door an hour before their office was even closed and wouldn't let me in. He held my documents hostage. I went back again the next day during my lunch break and Armando LEFT and said I'd have to come back hours later if I wanted my documents. Not only is the manager unprofessional, but he is directly confrontational. I was and still am completely shocked at the level of aggression and unprofessionalism I received during this entire transaction. I finally had another employee go into Armando's desk to retrieve my documents, went home and called customer service to complain. I am now out $1100 plus interest for a mistake H&R Block made 2 years ago and refuses to take responsibility for, and I'm still trying to get my return amended. My entire experience with them has been an absolute nightmare and is still nowhere near being resolved.

What happened to all their slogans: "Get Your Billions Back" (I owed even more because of them), "You Got People" (people who are misinformed, treat me badly, and don't correct their mistakes), "Get It Right" (but they did my taxes wrong!). If I could give zero stars, I would. I paid $300 to H&R Block, they did my taxes wrong, laughed and told me "too bad" when I came to them to fix it, and I ended up owing even more because of them. NEVER AGAIN!

I went hoping to learn more about taxes and how to better prepare for next year. I left feeling even more frustrated and confused. I could barely understand the advisor I was given and got none of my questions answered. Complete waste of money.

I had my taxes done at this location - same kinda service you would expect from a cookie cutter tax prep shop - long wait times, and a-okay service. This is good for most folks who have simple tax returns to be filed - most of which can be done rather easily online nowadays.

My boyfriend and I have been going to Jenny Vu with H&R Block Ballston for a few years now, and will continue to travel to this location just for her. In our opinion, she provides the best professional tax service and financial advice we have ever had. She is thorough, informative, patient, and has gone out of her way several times to explore and educate us on ways to save. Sometimes resulting in thousands of dollars saved. Whether you have a basic and simple tax return, or one highly complex and itemized, you will not stump Jenny. She knows her stuff!!

I've always done my own taxes using TurboTax. Got married a couple of years ago. Suddenly things got ridiculously complicated and filing online was no longer an option. Hell, the Spouse and I had no serious arguments that first year of matrimony...until it came time to file our taxes. I was so angry I thought of filing for divorce; the Spouse and I communicated for several days with grunts and death-stares. All because we couldn't figure out how to file our freaking tax returns, what with different types of income, my moving from DC to VA, a job loss for me, collateral damage/obligations from Spouse's first marriage, my hyper Type A tax paperwork organization versus the Spouse's more "casual" record keeping approach, Spouse's crazymad MIT-brain numbers skillz versus my math phobia, etc. Our situation was not terribly unique -- people get married/divorced and move to/from various states every damn day -- so it was incredibly frustrating that we couldn't get it sorted.

I told the Spouse I was declaring defeat and making an appointment at H&R Block. I searched for a "premium" office, one with tax professionals with particular expertise navigating the morass of state filings.

We were set up with Curtis, whose many years of experience dealing with every single income category/deduction/life situation with the IRS, DC, and VA meant that he immediately spotted our mistakes, knew of critical deductions we'd missed, and in the end, was able to secure heaps more in federal and state refunds than we expected.

[We're still married, so there's that.]

I know others have written negative reviews at this particular office. Most people can file their taxes using Turbotax, etc., and I definitely recommend handling your own taxes if possible. Big life changes typically require some professional assistance. Our experience with Curtis was incredibly positive. If you need help with your taxes, I recommend you make an appoinment with Curtis at H&R Block.

Horrible and totally unprofessional!! had an appointment at 5 made me wait for over 2 hours for something that takes 10 min! took someone in before my appointment by ten minutes and had to wait all this time because they lack punctuality and any sense of prioritizing!! stay away! do your own tax at turbo tax and save yourself the trouble!!!!
